Scanned documents often come out slightly tilted or skewed — the paper was placed at a slight angle in the scanner, or a photographed document was captured from a non-perpendicular angle. Even a few degrees of skew makes text harder to read, reduces OCR accuracy, and looks unprofessional when submitted digitally.
The document alignment fixer (deskew tool) automatically detects the angle of each scanned page and rotates it by the corresponding amount to bring the text lines to horizontal. The correction happens automatically based on text line detection — you don't need to manually specify the rotation angle.
Beyond automatic deskew, the tool also applies perspective correction for photographs taken from an angle (trapezoidal distortion), transforming a photographed document into a flat, rectangular top-down view. This is particularly useful for mobile-photographed documents such as marksheets, certificates, and identity cards.
How to use this utility
- Open this page and upload the file you want to process.
- Choose options if shown, then run the action. Processing is designed to finish within seconds for typical files.
- Download the result immediately. Server-side jobs use temporary storage with automatic expiry.
Common use cases
- Fixing a scanned marksheet or certificate that was placed slightly crooked in the scanner.
- Correcting a mobile phone photograph of a document that was taken from a slight angle.
- Deskewing a batch of scanned invoices or receipts before OCR processing.
- Fixing tilted text in a scanned application form before submission to a portal.
- Straightening a photographed Aadhaar card or driving licence before converting to PDF.
Tips for best results
- 1For best results, use good lighting and hold the camera directly above the document — this reduces the amount of correction needed.
- 2Automatic deskew works best when there are multiple lines of horizontal text for the algorithm to align to — documents with large images and sparse text may require manual angle correction.
- 3After deskewing, run OCR PDF on the corrected document for the highest text recognition accuracy.
- 4For severely tilted scans (>15 degrees), manual angle entry may produce better results than automatic detection.
- 5If the output document has black triangular corners after deskewing, you can crop them off using the Crop PDF tool.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. Public tools are free and do not require an account.
- Do you keep my files?
- Server inputs and outputs expire according to the job retention setting (two hours by default) and are removed by periodic cleanup. Download the result promptly; deletion is not immediate at download.
- Is the Document alignment fixer tool safe to use?
- Use HTTPS and only files you have the right to process. Server jobs temporarily store inputs and outputs until expiry and periodic cleanup. Keep an original copy.
- Can this tool fix perspective distortion in photographed documents?
- Yes — in addition to rotation-based skew, the tool corrects trapezoidal perspective distortion, which occurs when a document is photographed from an angle rather than from directly above.
- What is the maximum skew angle the tool can correct?
- The automatic deskew engine handles skew up to ±20 degrees reliably. Beyond that, manual angle input is recommended.
- Does deskewing affect the resolution or quality of the scanned image?
- The rotation process uses high-quality interpolation and has minimal impact on image sharpness. Very small quality differences (imperceptible to the eye) may occur due to the sub-pixel interpolation required for non-integer rotation angles.
- Can I process multiple pages at once?
- Yes — upload a multi-page PDF or a set of images, and the tool processes each page independently, applying the optimal deskew angle to each page.
