Passport photo requirements are strictly defined by government and immigration authorities: specific pixel dimensions, DPI, background colour, head size ratio, and file size limits all apply. A photo that doesn't meet these specifications may be rejected, delaying your application.
This tool resizes your photo to any standard passport photo dimension: 35×45mm (most European and Indian passports), 51×51mm (Indian passport), 2×2 inch (US visa), 35×35mm, and custom dimensions. It also provides background replacement (replacing coloured or cluttered backgrounds with a pure white background as required by most authorities), and ensures the output meets typical DPI and file size requirements.
For digital portal submissions, the tool generates JPEG images at the exact pixel dimensions specified by the portal, with the correct file size and background. For physical printing, it creates a printable PDF with multiple photo copies per A4 page for efficient printing.

Common use cases
- Resizing a smartphone photo to 35×45mm JPEG for Indian passport renewal application.
- Creating a 51×51mm white-background photo for an Indian visa application.
- Resizing a photo to 2×2 inch for a US visa application.
- Generating a correctly sized photo for a government exam registration (SSC, UPSC, banking).
- Replacing the background of a photo taken at home with a plain white background for official use.
Tips for best results
- 1Take the original photo in portrait orientation with the head centred and vertical — cropping is much easier when the composition is correct from the start.
- 2Use a plain light-coloured or white wall as the background when taking the photo — background replacement tools work better with uniform, non-patterned backgrounds.
- 3Ensure even, front-facing lighting — shadows on the background or face can complicate background removal and reduce acceptance chances.
- 4Check the specific size requirement for your exact application — US passport, UK passport, Indian passport, and Schengen visa applications all have slightly different dimensions.
- 5After resizing, print one test copy before printing a full sheet to verify the dimensions and quality match requirements.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Passport size photo crop tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- What are the photo requirements for an Indian passport?
- Indian passports require a 51×51mm colour photo with a white background, taken within the last 6 months. The face should be centred, occupying 70–80% of the frame, with a neutral expression and mouth closed. Glasses are not accepted.
- Can I use a photo taken with a front-facing selfie camera?
- Front cameras on modern smartphones have sufficient resolution for passport photos (typically 8–12 MP). The main challenge is achieving even lighting and a proper white/plain background, which is harder with a selfie than with a proper photo setup.
- What file format should the passport photo be in for portal upload?
- Most portals require JPEG (.jpg) format. Some accept PNG. TIFF and WebP are generally not accepted. Check the portal's specific requirements.
- How do I know if the background removal is good enough for an official submission?
- After removing the background, zoom into the edges around the hair and shoulders — these are the areas most prone to artefacts. The transition between the subject and the white background should be clean, with no visible halo or grey fringing.
