Compressing a PDF to under 100 KB is one of the most common requirements for government job portals, university admissions, and official form submissions in India. Many platforms—such as the NPS registration portal, UPSC, state PSC boards, and various central government recruitment systems—enforce a hard 100 KB limit on uploaded documents. Without a proper compression tool, applicants often find themselves stuck, unable to submit critical paperwork on time.
The PDF compressor makes a best-effort attempt to reduce the document size. The amount saved depends on the source and the processing tools available on the server. A requested 100 KB target is not a guarantee: the output can remain larger. Compare the final byte size with the portal limit and inspect small text, seals and images before using it.
Compression can change document quality and invalidate a digital signature. Keep the original, compare the downloaded copy and avoid transforming a signed certificate when the recipient requires its original signature. If a readable copy cannot meet the size limit, ask the receiving organisation for an accepted alternative.
How to use this utility
- Open this page and upload the file you want to process.
- Choose options if shown, then run the action. Processing is designed to finish within seconds for typical files.
- Download the result immediately. Server-side jobs use temporary storage with automatic expiry.
Common use cases
- Reducing passport-photo-embedded PDFs for UPSC, SSC, and railway recruitment portals that enforce a 100 KB limit.
- Compressing a college admission application that includes a scanned photograph and signature.
- Shrinking a multi-page scanned offer letter or experience certificate before uploading to an HR portal.
- Trimming oversized PDF payslips before attaching them to a loan or visa application.
- Meeting the file-size requirement for NPS, PF, or government insurance scheme portals.
Tips for best results
- 1Always compress to the next size tier above your actual target (e.g., compress to 150 KB first, then 100 KB) to compare visual quality at each level.
- 2If your PDF is mostly text, use the 'screen' quality preset — text-heavy PDFs compress dramatically without visual loss.
- 3For PDFs with colour photographs, check the preview after compression; if faces or stamps become blurry, try one quality tier higher.
- 4Remove unnecessary pages (blank pages, cover sheets) before compressing — fewer pages means a smaller compressed result.
- 5If a single compression pass still exceeds the limit, try running the compressed PDF through the tool a second time.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. Public tools are free and do not require an account.
- Do you keep my files?
- Server inputs and outputs expire according to the job retention setting (two hours by default) and are removed by periodic cleanup. Download the result promptly; deletion is not immediate at download.
- Is the Compress PDF to 100KB tool safe to use?
- Use HTTPS and only files you have the right to process. Server jobs temporarily store inputs and outputs until expiry and periodic cleanup. Keep an original copy.
- Why does my PDF not compress below 100 KB?
- Some PDFs contain high-resolution colour photographs, embedded fonts, or scanned pages that cannot be reduced further without the text becoming unreadable. In such cases, try removing non-essential pages first or crop images to reduce raster content before re-compressing.
- Will compression affect my digital signature or certificate validity?
- Yes—PDF/A and digitally signed PDFs should not be re-compressed because doing so invalidates the cryptographic signature. Compress the original unsigned source, not a signed copy. If the document is already signed and official, contact the issuing authority for a native lower-resolution copy.
- Can I compress a PDF that has already been compressed?
- Yes, but with diminishing returns. Each subsequent compression pass offers smaller savings. If one pass brings a 3 MB PDF to 200 KB, a second pass may bring it to 150 KB—try both and compare.
- Is there a file size limit for uploading to the compressor?
- The tool accepts PDFs up to 50 MB for server-side processing. If your file is larger, try splitting it first using the Split PDF tool and then compressing each part individually.
