The Markdown Preview tool provides a live side-by-side editor where you can write Markdown and instantly see the rendered HTML output. Markdown is a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber in 2004, now the standard for README files, documentation, blog posts, GitHub issues, Stack Overflow answers, and technical writing.
Our editor supports the core Markdown specification: headings (# H1 through ###### H6), bold (**text**), italic (*text*), strikethrough (~~text~~), code blocks (```), inline code (`code`), blockquotes (>), unordered lists (-), ordered lists (1.), links ([text](url)), and tables.
Markdown is used by GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Obsidian, Medium (partially), Dev.to, and virtually every developer tool. Learning Markdown is one of the highest-leverage technical writing skills — it renders beautifully, is version-control friendly, and can be converted to HTML, PDF, DOCX, and other formats.

Tips for best results
- 1Use GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM) for GitHub README — it adds task lists and table support
- 2Indent code blocks with 4 spaces or fence with ``` for syntax highlighting
- 3Add alt text to all images: for accessibility
- 4Use --- (three hyphens) on a blank line to create a horizontal rule separator
- 5Export Markdown to PDF using Pandoc for professional documentation
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Markdown Preview tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- What is the difference between Markdown and HTML?
- Markdown is a human-readable plain text format that converts to HTML. HTML is the rendered output. Markdown is easier to write and read, but HTML offers more control. Most Markdown parsers allow raw HTML inline — useful for complex formatting not supported by Markdown syntax.
- How do I add syntax highlighting to code blocks?
- Fence your code block with triple backticks and specify the language: ```javascript ... ```. Most Markdown renderers (GitHub, VS Code, Pandoc) use Prism or highlight.js to syntax-highlight the code based on the language identifier.
- Can I use Markdown in WhatsApp or messaging apps?
- WhatsApp, Telegram, and Slack have their own Markdown-like formatting but not full Markdown. WhatsApp: *bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~, ```monospace```. Slack: *bold*, _italic_, ~strike~, `code`. GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, and Dev.to support full standard Markdown.
- How do I convert Markdown to PDF?
- Use Pandoc (command-line): pandoc input.md -o output.pdf. For GitHub README PDFs, use a browser — open the rendered README and print to PDF. VS Code with the Markdown PDF extension is the easiest option for developers.
