Removing duplicate lines from a text file or data set is a fundamental data cleaning operation. Duplicate lines appear in text data for many reasons: copy-paste accumulation in configuration files, repeated log entries, multiple-source data merges that didn't deduplicate, and programmatically generated files that repeated entries accidentally.

This tool accepts a plain text input (paste or upload), identifies all duplicate lines, and outputs a version with duplicates removed. Options include case-insensitive matching, trimming leading/trailing whitespace before comparing, preserving the first vs. last occurrence, and sorting the output after deduplication.

Data engineers use deduplication before loading data into databases. Developers clean up config files, word lists, and command history. Analysts clean exported CSV data before processing. Content managers clean keyword lists and URL databases before running SEO analysis.

How to use this utility

  1. Use the controls below—paste text, pick files, or adjust options as described on the tool.
  2. Click the main action button. Processing runs in your browser on this device.
  3. Download or copy the output. Check the processing note for any external services used by this operation.

Common use cases

  • Deduplicating a list of email addresses or phone numbers before sending a bulk campaign.
  • Removing duplicate domain names or URLs from an SEO keyword or link list.
  • Cleaning duplicate log entries from a server log file before analysis.
  • Deduplicating a word list or dictionary file for a natural language processing task.
  • Removing repeated configuration entries from a merged .env or config file.

Tips for best results

  • 1Use case-insensitive mode when deduplicating email addresses — 'User@Example.com' and 'user@example.com' should be treated as duplicates.
  • 2Enable whitespace trimming when processing CSV data — leading/trailing spaces may cause identical values to be treated as different.
  • 3For ordered data (like a sorted word list), preserve the first occurrence to maintain the original sort position.
  • 4For log files where recency matters, preserve the last occurrence so the most recent entry is kept.
  • 5Sort the output after deduplication for easier visual review and downstream alphabetical processing.

Frequently asked questions

Is Konnect2Tools free?
Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
Do my files leave my device?
Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
Is the Remove duplicate lines tool safe to use?
Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
Does the tool remove duplicates based on exact matching or fuzzy matching?
Exact matching by default. Optionally case-insensitive and whitespace-trimmed exact matching. Fuzzy or semantic deduplication (for near-duplicate sentences) is not supported — for that, use a dedicated data deduplication library.
What is the maximum input size?
The tool handles text inputs up to 10 MB. For larger files, split the input first and deduplicate each chunk, then merge and deduplicate the combined output.
Can I deduplicate CSV rows based on a specific column?
This tool deduplicates entire lines. For column-specific deduplication in CSV data, use the CSV to JSON tool first, then process the JSON for key-based deduplication in a spreadsheet or script.
Does the tool preserve the original line order?
Yes — by default, the output preserves the order of the first occurrence of each unique line. Optional sorting is available if you want the output in alphabetical order.
