The Advance Tax Calculator helps taxpayers estimate and plan their quarterly advance tax payments for the current financial year. Under Section 208 of the Income Tax Act, any individual or business with a tax liability exceeding ₹10,000 after accounting for TDS must pay advance tax in four installments throughout the year rather than as a lump sum at the end.

Paying advance tax on time prevents interest liability under Sections 234B and 234C. Section 234B charges 1% interest per month for non-payment of advance tax, and Section 234C penalizes underpayment of each quarterly installment. Our calculator shows the exact amount due by each deadline — June 15, September 15, December 15, and March 15 — so you can schedule payments through Challan 280 on the income tax portal.

Salaried employees whose full tax is deducted by employers typically don't need to pay advance tax. But freelancers, business owners, investors with capital gains, and anyone earning significant interest or rental income should use this calculator. The calculation is straightforward: estimate your annual income, compute the tax using the applicable slab, deduct expected TDS, and plan the four installments as a percentage of the net tax liability.

  • 4Revised estimates are fine — if income surges later in the year, increase subsequent installments

What is the penalty for not paying advance tax?
Section 234B charges 1% simple interest per month (or part thereof) on the shortfall from 1 April to the date of actual payment. Section 234C charges 1% per quarter on deficient installments. Both can add up to 3–6% extra on your tax bill.
Can I revise my advance tax estimate mid-year?
Yes. If your income increases or decreases, you can revise in subsequent installments. For example, if you overestimate Q1, you can reduce Q2's payment accordingly. There is no penalty for revising estimates.
