A car loan or two-wheeler loan calculator helps you determine the monthly EMI based on the on-road price of the vehicle, down payment amount, interest rate, and loan tenure. Unlike a home loan where you get the property as collateral, vehicle loans are secured by the vehicle — making them relatively easier to obtain but at higher interest rates than home loans.
The on-road price includes the ex-showroom price, insurance, road tax, registration charges, and any accessories. Banks typically finance 80–90% of the on-road price. A higher down payment reduces the loan amount and total interest paid. For example, on a ₹10 lakh car, increasing the down payment from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh saves approximately ₹15,000–20,000 in total interest on a 5-year loan.
Car loan interest rates in India range from 8.5–11% for new cars at major banks, and 12–20% at NBFCs for used cars. Two-wheeler loan rates are typically higher at 12–18%. Vehicle manufacturers' captive finance companies (Maruti Finance, HDFC ERGO, etc.) often offer subvented rates of 5–7% on select models during festive seasons — but always verify the ex-showroom price hasn't been inflated to compensate.

Common use cases
- A first-time car buyer wants to know the monthly EMI on a ₹8 lakh car with ₹2 lakh down payment at 9.5% for 5 years.
- Someone is comparing a 3-year and 5-year car loan to decide which tenure fits their budget and minimises interest.
- A person choosing between a ₹6 lakh bike and a ₹12 lakh car wants to compare total ownership costs including loan interest.
- A buyer is evaluating a manufacturer's subvented 0% EMI offer vs a regular bank loan with a lower on-road price.
- Someone is calculating the true cost of a car (on-road price + total loan interest) to budget for the purchase.
Tips for best results
- 1Maximise down payment. Borrowing ₹6L instead of ₹8L on a ₹10L car saves approximately ₹30,000 in interest over 5 years at 10%.
- 2Choose 3–4 year tenure for cars rather than 7 years. Longer tenure reduces EMI but significantly increases total interest — and you may still be paying EMIs after the car needs major servicing.
- 3Check the manufacturer EMI schemes carefully. A 0% EMI scheme often comes with a higher on-road price or removal of negotiable discounts. Calculate total cost vs a discounted cash purchase with a separate bank loan.
- 4Always get at least 3 quotes — from your bank, the dealership's financial partner, and an NBFC. Rate differences of 0.5–1% translate to ₹5,000–15,000 in savings on a typical car loan.
- 5Consider a loan with part-prepayment facility. If you get a bonus or extra income, prepaying ₹50,000 once can cut 6–12 months off your tenure.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Car / Bike Loan Calculator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- What documents are needed for a car loan?
- KYC documents (Aadhaar, PAN), income proof (last 3 salary slips + 6-month bank statement for salaried; last 2 years ITR for self-employed), quotation from the dealership, and the vehicle's insurance details. Some banks also check employment stability (minimum 1 year at current employer).
- Can I get a car loan for a used vehicle?
- Yes. Used car loans are available from banks and NBFCs but at higher rates (10–18%) and lower LTV (70–80% of market value). The vehicle typically needs to be less than 10–12 years old and undergo a valuation.
- Is it better to lease or buy a car?
- For individuals, buying (with or without a loan) is generally better in India as leasing infrastructure is limited. Leasing is primarily used by corporates for fleet management. For individuals with high income, some companies offer cars as a CTC component, which has tax advantages.
- What happens if I miss an EMI?
- Missing an EMI triggers a late fee (₹500–1,500), reduces your CIBIL score, and the bank may contact the guarantor. After 3 consecutive missed payments, the loan is classified as an NPA and the bank can repossess the vehicle.
