Editing a PDF lets you add, change, or delete text and images directly in the document without needing the original source file (Word, InDesign, etc.). While PDF is not inherently designed as an editable format, this tool provides a way to make targeted changes: adding annotations, inserting new text blocks, updating dates or numbers, and inserting signature images.

The editing capabilities cover: inserting text overlays (useful for filling in blank form fields), adding image stamps (logos, signatures), drawing shapes (rectangles, lines for highlighting), adding sticky-note annotations, and inserting new blank pages. More advanced operations like changing existing text inline are supported for vector-based PDFs.

PDF editing is distinct from PDF form filling. Form filling works on dedicated form fields designed for user input. PDF editing in the general sense modifies the document's content directly, which is appropriate for templates, reports, and official documents that need minor corrections.

How to use this utility

  1. Use the controls below—paste text, pick files, or adjust options as described on the tool.
  2. Click the main action button. Processing runs in your browser on this device.
  3. Download or copy the output. Check the processing note for any external services used by this operation.

Common use cases

  • Adding a signature image or initials to a contract PDF that doesn't have form fields.
  • Inserting a company logo or stamp onto a generated certificate or letter.
  • Correcting a typo in a date or name on a PDF document before sending.
  • Adding sticky-note annotations or review comments to a PDF for colleague feedback.
  • Drawing a highlight box around important data in a report before sharing.

Tips for best results

  • 1For filling out structured forms with defined fields, use the Sign PDF or Fill & Sign feature instead of the general editor — it provides a smoother experience.
  • 2Additions you make to a PDF (text overlays, images) are added as a new layer on top of the original content — they don't modify the underlying PDF content stream.
  • 3Save frequently if you're making extensive edits; PDF editing in the browser can be resource-intensive.
  • 4To move or edit elements you previously added, re-open the edited PDF in the same tool rather than re-uploading the original.
  • 5For permanent, court-ready document redaction, use the Redact PDF tool rather than drawing opaque shapes — drawing shapes can be removed by other editors.

Frequently asked questions

Is Konnect2Tools free?
Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
Do my files leave my device?
Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
Is the Edit PDF (stamp) tool safe to use?
Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
Can I change existing text that was in the original PDF?
For vector-based PDFs (created from Word, InDesign, etc.), inline text editing is available for individual text blocks. For scanned PDFs, editing existing text is not possible without OCR and conversion to Word first.
Will my edits be visible to anyone who opens the PDF?
Yes — all edits (text overlays, images, annotations) are permanently embedded in the output PDF and visible to any viewer. If you want edits visible only in certain contexts, use the annotation layer (sticky notes) instead of permanent overlays.
Can I undo edits after downloading the file?
Once downloaded, the edits are permanent in that file. Undo is only available within the editing session before download. Keep the original unedited file as a backup before making permanent edits.
What is the difference between editing a PDF and using the Sign PDF tool?
The Sign PDF tool is specifically designed for the workflow of adding a signature and saving a signed document. The Edit PDF tool is for general-purpose content modifications: adding text, images, shapes, and annotations for any purpose beyond just signing.
