The Gold Calculator helps you determine the current value of gold in Indian Rupees based on purity, weight, and today's market rate. Gold is quoted per 10 grams in India, and our calculator supports all major purities: 24K (99.9% pure), 22K (91.6%, standard jewellery), 18K (75%), and 14K (58.5%). Simply enter the current 24K rate from your local jeweller or MCX, the weight in grams, and the purity to instantly see the base gold value.
Beyond the pure gold value, our calculator adds optional making charges (typically 8–25% of gold value depending on design complexity and jeweller) and the mandatory 3% GST applicable on all gold jewellery purchases in India. This gives you the actual amount you'll pay at the jeweller, helping you negotiate more effectively and identify fair prices.
For investment gold (coins and bars), making charges are nil, but 3% GST still applies. Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) offer the most cost-efficient gold exposure — no GST, no making charges, and an additional 2.5% interest per annum — but are illiquid before 5 years. Gold ETFs are liquid with minimal expense ratios (0.2–0.5%) and no GST. Physical gold stored at home attracts wealth protection concerns. Balancing across forms is a sound strategy.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Gold Calculator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- What does 22K gold mean?
- 22 Karat gold is 22 parts pure gold + 2 parts other metals (usually silver, copper, zinc), giving it 91.6% gold purity. It is the standard for jewellery in India as it is harder than 24K (pure) and holds design detail better. 24K is used for coins and bars.
- How is GST on gold calculated?
- 3% GST is charged on the total sale value (gold value + making charges). Note: Making charges themselves may be invoiced separately at a lower GST rate by some jewellers, but technically 3% applies on the total. Always get a GST invoice when purchasing jewellery.
- What is the maximum gold you can hold without declaration?
- Under the current law, married women can hold up to 500g, unmarried women 250g, and men 100g without explanation. Holdings beyond these limits should be explained via documented gifts, inheritance, or purchase bills with PAN details. No absolute limit is prescribed, but income source must be explainable.
- Are gold ETFs better than physical gold?
- For investment purposes, Gold ETFs and SGBs are better: no storage risk, insurance cost, or making charges. SGBs additionally pay 2.5% annual interest and are capital gains tax-free on maturity. Physical gold makes sense only for jewellery or cultural use, not as a pure investment vehicle.
