Extracting data from a PDF table into Excel is a common pain point for analysts, accountants, and researchers. PDFs don't natively store spreadsheet structure — they store text at absolute positions — so converting them back to spreadsheet format requires intelligent table detection and reconstruction.
This tool identifies tables within PDF pages by analysing text positioning patterns, reconstructs the row-and-column grid, and exports the data to an .xlsx file. Each detected table is placed on a separate worksheet. Numeric values retain their proper cell type (number, not text) so formulas work immediately in Excel.
Finance professionals use PDF-to-Excel conversion to extract data from bank statements, annual reports, and audit summaries. Researchers use it to pull data tables from published academic papers. Operations teams use it to extract order data from PDF reports generated by legacy systems. The tool saves hours of manual re-typing.

Common use cases
- Extracting transaction data from a bank PDF statement into Excel for reconciliation.
- Pulling financial data tables from an annual report PDF for ratio analysis.

- Extracting product specifications from a supplier's PDF catalogue into an Excel comparison sheet.
- Converting a PDF invoice summary table into Excel for bookkeeping.
Tips for best results
- 1PDFs with clear cell borders and grid lines produce the most accurate table extraction. Borderless tables are harder to detect.
- 2After conversion, verify that numbers are stored as numbers (right-aligned) not text (left-aligned) — if they're text, use Excel's 'Text to Columns' or 'Value()' function to fix.
- 3For PDFs with multiple tables on the same page, each table should appear on a separate sheet in the output — verify the sheet count matches the number of tables.
- 4If a table spans multiple pages, the converter will attempt to stitch the pages together. Verify the row count in Excel against the total rows in the PDF.
- 5For scanned PDF tables (image-based), run OCR on the PDF first to create a text layer before attempting PDF-to-Excel conversion.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the PDF to Excel tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- Why is some data showing as '#VALUE!' errors in the converted Excel file?
- This usually happens when numeric data is converted as text strings that Excel doesn't recognise as numbers. Select those cells, go to Data → Text to Columns, and choose 'General' format to convert them to proper numbers.
- Can I extract tables from a scanned PDF?
- Scanned PDFs are images without machine-readable text. Run the OCR PDF tool first to create a text layer, then use PDF-to-Excel conversion to extract the table data.
- What happens if the PDF has merged cells in its tables?
- Merged cells are reconstructed as best as possible, but the conversion may produce separate cells with repeated content or blank cells. Manual cleanup in Excel may be needed for complex merged table headers.
- Does the converter preserve number formatting (e.g., currency symbols, decimal places)?
- Number formatting (such as INR ₹ symbols, commas, and decimal places) is preserved as text in the cells. You may want to apply Excel's number formatting to convert these into proper currency cells.
