A salary hike calculator helps you understand the real impact of an appraisal on your monthly take-home pay. The headline 'CTC hike' figure is always higher than the actual in-hand increase because deductions like Employee Provident Fund (12% of basic), Professional Tax, and Income Tax TDS also scale up with your new salary. A 20% CTC hike doesn't translate to a 20% increase in take-home.
The gap between CTC hike and in-hand increase depends on your salary structure. If your basic salary is 40% of CTC, a ₹2 lakh hike in CTC results in an ₹80,000 increase in basic salary, which increases your PF deduction by ₹9,600/year — reducing the net benefit. Additionally, a higher CTC may push you into a higher income tax bracket, further reducing the marginal take-home benefit from the hike.
This calculator gives you the new in-hand salary and exact monthly increase, helping you plan budget changes, negotiate counter-offers, or compare two job offers with different CTC structures. For a complete picture, also use the Income Tax Calculator to estimate the TDS impact of the new salary.

Common use cases
- An employee who just got a 15% hike wants to know how much more they'll actually see in their bank account each month.
- Someone comparing two job offers — ₹18L with PF vs ₹16L without PF — wants to calculate the true take-home difference.
- An HR professional is preparing offer letters and wants to show the in-hand breakdown alongside the CTC figure.
- A professional negotiating a counter-offer wants to know the minimum CTC hike needed to achieve a specific in-hand increase.
- A fresher joining their first job wants to understand why their actual in-hand is significantly lower than the CTC.
Tips for best results
- 1When evaluating a job offer, always ask for the salary breakup (basic, HRA, special allowance) — not just the CTC. Two offers with the same CTC can have very different take-home amounts.
- 2A higher basic% means higher PF contributions (mandatory 12%), which reduces in-hand but builds long-term savings. A lower basic% with higher special allowance gives more take-home.
- 3Variable pay (performance bonus) is part of CTC but not guaranteed. Build your budget only on fixed pay. Treat variable pay as a bonus.
- 4In metro cities, maximise HRA by keeping HRA at 50% of basic and paying rent to claim maximum HRA exemption under the Old Tax Regime.
- 5Recalculate your income tax after a hike. A significant raise might move you to a higher slab — use the Income Tax Calculator to see if switching to the New Regime makes more sense.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Salary Hike Calculator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- Why is my actual take-home less than the CTC hike suggests?
- CTC includes both employee and employer costs. Employer PF (3.67% EPF + 8.33% EPS = 12% of basic) is part of CTC but never paid to you directly. Additionally, your own PF deduction (12% of basic), professional tax, and income tax TDS are deducted from gross pay before disbursement.
- How much of a hike do I need to get ₹10,000 more in hand every month?
- This varies with salary structure. At ₹12L CTC with 40% basic and PF deducted, you need approximately ₹18,000–20,000 of additional CTC to get ₹10,000 more in hand (after PF, PT, and tax). The calculator gives you exact figures.
- Does a salary hike automatically change my tax bracket?
- Not always. Tax brackets depend on taxable income after deductions. A 10–15% hike on a ₹12L CTC may increase tax by ₹5,000–15,000/year but typically doesn't cause a large bracket jump. Use the Income Tax Calculator to see the exact impact.
- Is professional tax mandatory everywhere in India?
- No. Only certain states levy professional tax: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and a few others. Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, and most northeastern states don't levy it.
