The Fuel Cost Calculator helps Indian vehicle owners estimate the cost of driving — per trip, per month, and per year — based on their vehicle's fuel efficiency and current petrol/diesel prices. With petrol hovering around ₹95–105 per litre and diesel at ₹85–90 in most cities in 2025–26, fuel is a major monthly expense for daily commuters and fleet operators.
Enter your trip distance, vehicle mileage (typically 15–25 km/L for two-wheelers, 12–20 km/L for small cars, 10–16 km/L for SUVs), fuel price per litre, and number of trips per month. The calculator instantly shows per-trip cost, monthly fuel bill, annual fuel spend, and cost per kilometre.
The cost per kilometre metric is particularly useful for comparing the true cost of different transport options: personal car vs auto-rickshaw vs Ola/Uber vs metro. For urban commuters, the cost per km of a car (₹6–10/km including fuel and maintenance) often surprises those who haven't calculated it — metro and bus remain significantly more economical.

Common use cases
- Daily commuters calculating monthly fuel budget before buying a new vehicle
- Comparing fuel cost of petrol vs diesel vs CNG vs EV for purchase decision
- Small fleet operators estimating driver reimbursement rates per kilometre
- Calculating trip expense for outstation travel reimbursement claims
- Evaluating if an EV upgrade would pay off based on current fuel spend
Tips for best results
- 1Real-world mileage is 15–25% lower than claimed ARAI mileage — use actual mileage for accuracy
- 2City driving mileage is lower than highway due to stop-and-go traffic and AC load
- 3CNG cars cost ~40% less per km vs petrol; EVs cost ~70% less per km at current electricity prices
- 4Tyre pressure, air filter cleanliness, and driving speed above 100 km/h significantly reduce mileage
- 5For accurate mileage measurement: fill tank full, drive 200+ km, refill — divide km by litres added
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Fuel Cost Calculator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- How do I calculate my actual vehicle mileage?
- Fill your tank completely. Reset the trip meter. Drive 200–300 km in typical conditions (mix of city and highway). Refill the tank completely. Mileage = km driven ÷ litres added. Do this 3 times for an average — mileage varies with traffic, load, and AC use. This is more accurate than manufacturer claims.
- Is an electric vehicle cheaper to run than a petrol car?
- Yes, significantly. Electricity costs ₹7–9/kWh for home charging. A typical EV uses 15–20 kWh per 100 km = ₹1–1.8/km. A petrol car at 15 km/L with ₹100/L petrol = ₹6.7/km. EVs cost 70–80% less per km in fuel equivalent. However, higher purchase price and limited charging infrastructure are trade-offs.
- What is the government's per-km reimbursement rate?
- The official government rate for central employees is ₹9–24 per km depending on engine capacity (revised periodically). Private companies set their own rates — typically ₹5–15/km. For tax purposes, up to ₹1,600/month conveyance allowance is exempt for salaried employees (or actual transport allowance as per company policy).
- Should I choose petrol, diesel, or CNG?
- Petrol: lower purchase cost, good for < 8,000 km/year. Diesel: 30–40% better mileage, best for > 10,000 km/year on highways. CNG: lowest fuel cost (₹2–3/km), but limited station network and reduced boot space. EV: lowest running cost, best for city use within 150–400 km range. Calculate breakeven with this tool based on your mileage.
