The Rent Receipt Generator creates formatted monthly rent receipts that are valid for HRA (House Rent Allowance) tax exemption claims under the Indian Income Tax Act. Salaried employees can claim HRA exemption under Section 10(13A) for rent paid, but employers require actual rent receipts for the HRA exemption to be processed during investment declaration or ITR filing.
A valid rent receipt must contain: tenant's name, landlord's name, property address, rent amount (in words and numbers), period of rent, payment mode, and landlord's signature. If monthly rent exceeds ₹50,000, the landlord's PAN is also mandatory to be quoted on the receipt, and TDS at 5% must be deducted by the tenant under Section 194IB.
Our generator can produce multiple monthly receipts at once (1, 2, 3, 6, or 12 months) for the entire financial year, saving significant time. All receipts are print-ready — use browser print to PDF. The amount in words is automatically generated, which is a mandatory requirement on all official receipts in India.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Rent Receipt Generator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- Is a rent receipt legally valid without the landlord's signature?
- Technically, a receipt without signature is weaker as evidence, but income tax rules focus on the amount, period, and parties rather than requiring a wet signature for HRA claims. Most employers accept computer-generated receipts. However, if your claim is scrutinized by the tax department, a signed receipt provides stronger proof.
- When is the landlord's PAN mandatory on rent receipt?
- Mandatory when monthly rent exceeds ₹8,333 (₹1 lakh annually). Employers are required to collect the landlord's PAN when annual rent paid by an employee exceeds ₹1 lakh. If the landlord doesn't have PAN, they must furnish a self-declaration. Failure to provide PAN can result in denial of HRA exemption.
- Can I claim HRA if paying rent to a family member?
- Yes, but it is scrutinized heavily. You must have a genuine rental agreement, pay rent by bank transfer (not cash), and the landlord (family member) must declare the rental income in their ITR. Paying rent to a spouse does not qualify for HRA exemption in most cases as it is considered a circular transaction.
- What is Section 80GG for self-employed and non-HRA employees?
- Non-salaried individuals and employees not receiving HRA can claim deduction under Section 80GG for rent paid. The deduction is the least of: ₹5,000 per month, 25% of total income, or actual rent minus 10% of total income. No rent receipt to employer is needed — declare it in ITR directly.
