The Form 16 / Tax Summary Estimator helps salaried employees estimate their Form 16 figures — gross salary, deductions, taxable income, and total TDS — before receiving the official form from their employer in June/July. This is especially useful for tax planning: if you realize mid-year that you'll underpay TDS, you can request additional deductions or make advance tax payments.
Form 16 is the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) certificate issued by your employer under Section 203 of the Income Tax Act. It has two parts: Part A (TDS deposited with government, quarter-by-quarter) and Part B (salary income computation — gross salary, exemptions, deductions, taxable income, and tax computation). This estimator covers the Part B computation.
The tool supports both the new tax regime (default for FY 2025-26) and the old tax regime. Under the new regime, most deductions (80C, 80D, HRA exemption, home loan interest) are not allowed, but tax rates are lower. The standard deduction was increased to ₹75,000 under the new regime from FY 2024-25. Most salaried employees earning up to ₹15L will pay less tax under the new regime.

- 3If your actual tax > employer's TDS deduction, pay the difference as Advance Tax by March 15
- 4Home loan interest deduction (Section 24b) of ₹2L is only available in old regime
- 5NPS contribution through employer (Section 80CCD(2)) is deductible even in new regime — up to 14% of basic
Frequently asked questions
- Is Konnect2Tools free?
- Yes. These in-browser tools are completely free to use with no account required for core functionality.
- Do my files leave my device?
- Browser document operations run locally, except where the operation uses an external service, such as AI summarisation. Read the processing note before using sensitive inputs.
- Is the Form 16 / Tax Summary Estimator tool safe to use?
- Local operations process document content on your device. External-service operations may send inputs as described in the processing note. Keep originals and inspect the output.
- What is Form 16 and when do employers issue it?
- Form 16 is the annual TDS certificate your employer must issue by June 15 for the previous financial year (FY April–March). Part A shows quarter-wise TDS deposited; Part B shows salary breakdown and tax computation. It's your primary income proof document for ITR filing, visa applications, and loan processing. If your employer delays, you can check TDS in Form 26AS on the income tax portal.
- Which is better — old or new tax regime in FY 2025-26?
- For most salaried employees earning up to ₹15L: new regime is better if your total deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan interest) are below ₹2.5L. If you have a large home loan interest deduction (close to ₹2L limit) plus full 80C (₹1.5L) and 80D (₹25K+), old regime may save more. Use this calculator to compare both.
- What if my employer deducts too little TDS?
- If your employer's TDS calculation is insufficient (common when you have multiple income sources, capital gains, or rental income), you'll need to pay Advance Tax by March 15 for the shortfall. Underpayment of Advance Tax attracts interest under Section 234B and 234C. Use our Advance Tax Calculator to compute the required installments.
- Can I change my tax regime after submission to employer?
- You can choose your tax regime afresh every year when filing your ITR. Even if you submitted 'old regime' to your employer (causing higher TDS deduction), you can switch to 'new regime' in ITR and get a refund of excess TDS. However, switching between regimes mid-year causes complications with employer's monthly TDS calculations — best to decide in April.
